Rescuers had been drilling horizontally through the debris toward the trapped workers in the 4.5-km (3-mile) tunnel until the auger drilling machine broke on Friday and a new one was flown in. A rescue mission is currently underway at the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand to free 41 workers who are stuck inside following a landslide. The trapped workers have received Vitamin C and medicines including anti-depression tablets, said RCS Panwar, a health official involved in the rescue efforts.

The new 'imports management system' will need companies to obtain 'registration certificates' for imports of laptops, tablets and personal computers, instead of licences proposed earlier by the Aug.3 order, one of the officials said. The ministry conveyed the proposal to industry officials in a meeting on Friday, they added. India's electronics imports, including laptops, tablets and personal computers, stood at $19.7 billion in the April to June period, up 6.25% year-on-year.

Since it was set up in 2009, Lava has become popular for the budget phones, which have a keypad but no high-end features. Research firm Counterpoint estimates that Lava has a share of less than 1% in the world's second-biggest smartphone market, with 650 million such devices. Lava also plans to boost its smartphone offerings in the budget segment.
